Brief Introduction to the English Corner:

In May 2008 the English corner grew out of John Isherwood's Adult English class.
Now we have 5 teachers, and about 10 students coming for conversation classes.
We used to have basic English classes, but now concentrate on those who have basic English and wish to improve their conversational skills and English comprehension. We have three terms a year each lasting about 14 weeks.

Classes are held from 12:00-13:30 on Tuesdays

The Autumn term has already begun.

We have discussions.
We hold ordinary English classes.
We sing English songs.
We have outings each term.

Teachers hold training days from time to time.

The following are comments by one of the teachers on the first training day given by Mark Muller.

What Mark shared changed significantly my view of Christian missionary work.

In the present climate of migrant workers and asylum seekers coming to the UK from overseas, the opportunitiese for missionary work in your own country are now abundant. The field is indeed coming to the workers.

The English Corner organised by LCG Church is a missionary endeavour essentially aiming to reach Chinese people resident in the UK with the Gospel, though of course, people from any ethnic background are welcome. The English Corner seeks to do this by giving opportunity for practice in English conversation without charge and also some English tuition. It started in April 2008 along similar lines to one set up in a church in Manchester. This was the church from which Mark Muller came to give us the inspiring talk.

So far there has been a good response to the Gospel which is shared in various ways in the break between classes. It was a special joy when one November we could attend a baptismal service at the church where amongst twelve baptism candidates, two were from the English Corner.

In view of the encouragement the Lord is giving us so far, we are hoping and praying towards seeing an expansion of this endeavour with new people joining the team. Anyone who has a heart for sharing the love of Jesus and a good command of English can contact the church leaders to offer their services. Telephone numbers and e-mail addresses are on the contact page.
