Brief Introduction to the English Corner:
In May 2008 the English corner grew out of John Isherwood's Adult English class.
Now we have 7 teachers, and about 20 students studying at various levels.
We have basic English classes to advanced English conversational classes. We have three terms a year each lasting about 14 weeks.
Classes are held from 12:30-14:30 on Mondays and Tuesdays
The Summer term has already begun.

The following are comments by one of the teachers on the first training day given by Mark Muller.
What Mark shared changed significantly my view of Christian missionary work.
In the present climate of migrant workers and asylum seekers coming to the UK from overseas, the opportunitiese for missionary work in your own country are now abundant. The field is indeed coming to the workers.
The English Corner at LCG Church is a missionary endeavour essentially aiming to reach Chinese people resident in the UK with the Gospel, though of course, people from any ethnic background are welcome. The English Corner seeks to do this by giving virtually free English tuition, as well as offering opportunities for practice in English conversation. It started in April 2008 along similar lines to one set up in a church in Manchester. This was the church from which Mark Muller came to give us the inspiring talk.
So far there has been a good response to the Gospel which is shared in various ways in the break between classes. It was a special joy in November to attend a baptismal service at the church where anmongst twelve baptism candidates, two wer from the English Corner.
In view of the encouragement the Lord is giving us so far, we are hoping and praying towards seeing an expansion of this endeavour with new people joining the team. Anyone who has a heart for sharing the love of Jesus and a good command of English can contact the church leaders to offer their services. Telephone numbers and e-mail addresses are on the contact page. |
